We are looking for some suggestions for catch phrase for the game similar to say Halo's "Combat Evolved".

Miner Wars 2081: Dust to Dust

It just seems terribly appropriate, considering the semi-apocalyptic setting. Death is everywhere (hence the metaphysical reference), and the squabbles center around mining (with plenty of space dust in evidence). It adds both a profound and descriptive touch to the title.

fits with the mmo element to say that you have an effect on the games environment, the single player element in that you can play in a personal environment, and the tool kit element in that you can create your own environment.

I don't really like the "2081" and kinda think that it detracts from the games title and should be rolled back to just Miner Wars ... UNLESS your going to make it the series designator and use it to denote future expansions. like if you going to call the next release:

prob about only a small few i liked. Thing is if thats the type of phrase you want, i take it you will continue using phrases. SO this one prob should be related to being the first chapter or such. I don't think it is a good idea to make it sound "witty" or comical.... Some more ideas

That's the best I can think of...though I honestly think Expack's "6 Degrees of Movement, Infinite Degrees of Possibility" takes the ice cream cake here. It's a bit long, but it gets across two of the major points of Miner Wars in the first place.

I've never rated "Miner Wars" because it sounds like "Minor Wars" and the potential buyers don't want Minor wars, they want Major wars. So it's a bad name for marketing. You could use "Mines" in the title, but that's ambiguous - does it refer to mines like coal mines or mines that explode?

So, much better would be "Mineral Wars" or "Mining Wars" Then possible catch-phrases/sub-titles could be:
Dig the Dirt; Fear the Kill
6 Degrees of Freedom; 6 Decades in Hell
Dig Your Way In; Fight Your Way Out
Steal a Minor Planet; Fight a Major War
The Wars of Ores - mind you, THAT could be a better overall title for the game, hear how it rolls off the tongue with any one of the above subtitles.

A subtitle doesn't have to be explanatory; it has to be intriguing so that people want to know more.

The three biggest 'competitors' to this game right now are Eve Online, Jumpgate Evolution, and the X-Beyond series. So you're not going to want anything that sounds similar to what they use, because it can either really clue people into the game, or backfire completely and make them think the game is a clone with a few differences.

From what I've played so far, this is NOT a clone.

As from what I've read in this thread so far, I'd give two thumbs up to the 'Ore is Hell' over the miner icon, but that would work better as an advertisement online or in a magazine than as the game's catchphrase. On my opinion, at least.

Technically, I'd say the 2081 kind of eats up any space you'd need for a catchphrase. If you go back to the Halo: Combat Evolved... that was Halo 1. The game didn't call itself Halo 1. It was Halo: Combat Evolved. Further iterations of the game turned it into just Halo 2, Halo 3, Halo: Reach, Halo Wars... they completely dropped the 'Combat Evolved' portion.

Now, I know the basics behind the game... and after lurking on the forums for a couple weeks before deciding to actually purchase the game, I know some of what's planned and what people have suggested. But to make an efficient catchphrase it has to encompass the whole of what's going to be available.

Since the basis of the entire game is about digging (or revolves around it) ... if you don't dig, you essentially die, so "Dig or Die" would work.

If you are planning on going through with sequels/expansions based on a story-plot or whatever, then just the subtitle for this first installment could work as well. If it's going to eventually be about finding leftover alien artifacts and finding ways outside of the Solar System, mankind's first steps 'out there' so to speak, then something like 'The Departure' would make a good subtitle - as it refers to leaving Earth (not completely, but really starting to look elsewhere).

Push come to shove, someone else mentioned something similar to 'Ore War', because it seems like that's the basis behind the game. Getting to claims first, fighting over them if necessary, making money. I'd go with that. It can also be made to show that there will be expansions to come after this, especially giving it a title like 'The Great Ore War' - further expansions/sequels can use this.

For example - The first game in 2081 is 'The Great Ore War', everyone is going crazy claiming asteroids and mining and all that good stuff. Then the end of the plot, someone finds something that causes technology to leap ahead. Further expansions can refer to the first game as 'history', and new subtitles will be appropriate to resemble what's going on, and the passage of time. "The Expansion", "The Second Ore War", "The <insert alien race here> Prophecy"

Of course with each new sequel/expansion the 2081 would have to change to show the appropriate year.

I also like what SogiYa did, with the 'Carve, Claim, Construct' in sequence. Though I'd probably shift it to 'Claim, Carve, Construct'.

I have to agree with 'AdamsDad'. "Miner" does somehow sound like it's less of a war then others, although the meaning is clear once the setting is clear.
Though I have to say having "war" in a title of a game, or movie for that matter, does not raise my expectations for the product. It's been overused over time (War of the Worlds, Clone Wars...) and just means that there is a conflict, and not why I'm supposed to join it!

If a name change is not up for debate, I guess a lot can be said through a catch phrase, or subtitle, for this product. So here are my suggestions:

- Deep Space Digging

- Deep Space Survival

- Momentum (because it's what's space gameplay is all about)

- Deconstruction (because it represents the beginning of something and allows for iterations)

- Fight for Space

- Weapons Free

I think there are a few really good ones around. In my opinion 3 or 4 words should be enough though, otherwise it becomes more of an explanation of what the game is about, especially if it's two sentences linked with an 'and'. The 'catching' part of the catch phrase is kind of getting lost I think.

So wouldn't it be better to come up with some restrictions?
Like about how long it should be and maybe something like a word-cloud that represents the direction that it should be heading, and other more specific criteria.

I've also thought around the pun of digging space and actually digging into a rock, but so far I haven't found one that doesn't also sound kind of cheap.
But I do think there has to be one....

If you like latin phrases, then i think the common phrase Dues Ex Machina would fit perfectly with Miner Wars.
Btw, Dues Ex Machina means 'God Is Machine' and is meant to describe a situation where everything is going bad but then all of the sudden everything is magically and imediately resolved. Which would somewhat parallel with Earth running out of resources but then they just so happen to have the technology to create ships that mine asteroids which so happen to be convenietly located close to Earth... just saying. ;)

this doesnt really apply to minerwars but is hilarious. A joke me and my friend use to say, There was an old "Secret" deodorant commercial that use the phrase "Srong enough for a man but made for a woman" we would always say that around gay people lol (with the word I'm)
