How should the logo look?
Contest for new VRAGE logo
- create forum topic where people post and discuss their logo designs
- deadline is 27.7.2010
- logo should contain text VRAGE
- aggresive
- red, black colors
- metallic or stone, industrial, dirty, Miner Wars' like
- two pictures are required
- pure logo - will be used on web page or printed materials
- logo on dark background - used during game loading
- very good example is first 5 seconds of this video:

| Here is my logo idea, also including lame sketch just for the lols. Only made a logo once before in my life, so I hope you like it.
The Idea was to make the connection between the name and voxels, which it's all about. Enjoy, also, there are some pic of some maps I made for Gmod, dark one was never released :(
Edit had to create albums, so I added the map part for those who are interested.

Many different takes on the whole feeling of the V Rage Engine...
Since it's definition is Voxel Rage, perhaps someone should give a shot at using Voxels to create it...
Eversor's Idea is somewhat similar to this, is where this feeling spawned.
Also WillyP's 1.1 Is pretty neat, Perhaps a Huge V with a rage inside same style would have been what I would have done, but great intensity.

I think you need to add some kind of shape behind, around it or add a shape to part of it. But as you said its a WIP, It will be fun to see what finishing touches you add. This one sux on black bacground thou ;/ (should be made of little clouds or something, not pure black but wateva).
Oh and i was wondering if font really needs something inside but i'm little out of time hehe (oh and atlast i'v found nice font :D).
I was goofing with other versions for printing material B&W and grayscale but meh, lets see whats gonna be.

| Nice work there ZiggyPox, really liked your engine block logo, the new one is even better.
The V and R sharing bodies is a nice touch, and the round figure reminds me of the big asteroid with some pieces breaking off. Best of luck!
Also like WillyP's logos, my favourite one is the Vrage Logo V2.0, again because it has some destruction and got a worn metallic look. Good luck!

| Yeah, WillyP Really picked up nice clean cut for the logo (I have strange way of calling things).
I was just kinda, hehe, late about copmetition and i didn't want to copy someones idea (NOT, things just looks obvious after seeing them :P. But i like repeating myself that i just come here later :P).
Anyway i'm just ashamed of myself.. logo shouldn't be flashy and shiny and blinky and edgy, it's not how proper logo should be designed.
My professor would hit me sooo hard after seeing this T_T (he would hit me anyway cous i'm lazy slob :P)
ooh, anyway, Everson would make really nice thing if he would mind o turn his logo into clean hexagon with marked XYZ axis and "vexel" parts falling at some sides (just make it smaller). Isometric pictures just BEG for turning them into hexagons :P

This reminds mi little bit about Quake or some of "first HalfLife logo variations". Adding glov everywhere makes problems with printed materials.. EG. how to put it on T-shirt when machine is ironign pictures with white outline? Annoying thing but important.
Anyway, as i'm looking at my logo right now, i'm starting to see naugty things.. its that only my or i just screw up? :P (nahh, already have a way to repair it)

| It's just a concept of aranging shape into something more abstact, with shadows or only with those lines and the failing pieces showing space (and somehow making it look less like bitten cookie :P)
Edit: made hastly by brus bleh..
Edit2: ok, more like new one. Shure it wont work on black, but you may play with it further (like adding dark rombus to kill the feel of "honey company" >_>)
And the biggest problem of hexagens? Honeycomb look that ya need to "kill".
Edit3: Nay, you shouldn't be taking it down. Nothing wrong happend and can be let open to discussion (and my lawyer need to see it thou XP.. ok ok, i'm joking, srsly ;p) |

So, how would the prizes be distributed if 3 of one person's designs ended up in the top 5? Would they get all three 3 copies and beta access, or would they be given out to the three that would have been in 6th,7th, and 8th? I ask this, because there are a lot of designs that are really good, but happen to be the same people over and over. So I'm just trying to clear it up, as to whether the final design is the one being officially submitted, or whether they could get multiple designs to win. |

I've had a ton of trouble with (creating) metallic looking-materials in photoshop... I could make the gear solid, and maybe with rock & pieces... but I've got to work on it later tonight or tomorrow I've got some other unfinished business.

A screen shot from the latest demo. My idea is to model the word 'VRAGE' in 3d, put the model on an asteroid, the make a video of a pilot finding it. For drama, the word should not be readily readable until the headlights light it up. Then it blows up, pushing the ship into the camera.

Nice logo! It's dirty and... for lack of a better term earthy so to speak. I also like your idea about a sortof logo-movie thing but I don't expect I'd be entering a contest to go model-animate-and display a logo just figuring one out is hard enough!

| I liked Zeppo's work as well. I wish he had more than that 1 submission though I think he could come up with some really interesting stuff! Of course, he would need to be given the time :3 sorry to hear you are buried. I start getting buried Wednesday.

| honestly all I've learned about photoshop has come from tutorials online. So if you are using Gimp I'd suggest starting there and looking at possibly glow effects or filter effects... maybe custom brushes too. |

I like it. It looks like the Selesnya logo, which I guess was the same organization except it was in a fantasy universe (Magic: The Gathering's Ravnica expansion).

| GJ everyone, been on vacation so I didn't have my computer at hand to finish up my last logo, but I might just finish it anyway and post it here if I get the time.
Darkghost, I use Paint.net, I've tried gimp, but the layout wasn't to my liking. Paint.net however is very intuitive I think, just by playing around a bit I managed to make my logo's without reading any tutorials at all and I have little past experience with Photo shop. |

| I personally prefer Photoshop, as it can do more (by default) than Paint.Net can do (intially) and Photoshop looks more professional IMO, but I can definitely see the appeal of Paint.Net as it's very adjustable and customizable (whereas Photoshop is not). Other than that, though, the two programs are actually pretty eerily similar.
As for what I did with my logo, I sketched it and inked it on paper, then scanned it and colored and enhanced it in Photoshop, parts of it managed through the process of trial and error, so I probably can't relate how I did what very readily. It was nothing special, though, especially in comparison to some of these other logos. Really kind of surprised it managed to earn fourth. :O |
