Corporate History

2001

  • Marek Rosa creates a rudimentary engine and program in C++/OpenGl which allows the user to meander around the inside of an asteroid destroying aspects of the environment.

2002-2006

  • The VRAGE™ engine is coined - developed specifically for the yet unnamed demo.
  • Marek Rosa accrues savings for his project, hoping to turn the prototype into a fully-fledged game. The demo receives many updates, appendages and extensions.

2007-2008

  • Marek Rosa quits his job as a freelance programmer and begins working on Miner Wars full-time.
  • Keen Software House s.r.o. is officially founded.
  • The name Miner Wars is given for the project’s franchise and the game is announced to be in production.
  • Implemented in C# and XNA, Miner Wars takes advantage of advanced rendering capabilities on a wide range of graphical hardware; it is targeted for the PC and Xbox360 platforms. Gameplay will include both single player and MMO in a realistic sci-fi setting.

2009

  • Marek, still a one-man team, makes a trailer for his game and uploads it to Youtube. Dan Wentz, pre-eminent composer and audio director for dozens of video games sees the video and becomes the team's second member.
  • Minerwars.com is established.
  • An online community is formed – forums, participation, social endearing and audience input were put forward in a cunning marketing model.

2010

  • Programmers, designers, art specialists, writers, producers and administrators are recruited to work, originally on a voluntary basis.
  • In October the Pre-Alpha is pre-released at a 70% discount to allay production costs. The response is vastly beyond what is predicted, and thousands of euros pour in each day.
  • Several investors are signed.

2011

  • Gameplay demo is released, sales hit a new record high.
  • Keen Software House receives 1 mil. EUR investment for the development of Miner Wars™
  • 15 core staff are working in the Prague HQ, others externally in the United States.

Future

  • Miner Wars 2081 is expected to be released in Q1 2012, available on Steam, IGN’s Direct to Drive, and many other trusted distributors.
  • The Miner Wars MMO will be developed after Miner Wars 2081’s release.
  • After the retail release, sequels will begin production concurrently with Xbox Live and mobile media versions of the game.
